Multiple Characters
A lot of people have been asking me (or making up answers about) whether it's okay to have more than one role for your SL account. The short answer is YES, it's okay.
The long answer is yes, as long as you're smart and reasonable about it. For example, two different-looking avatars playing guard and prisoner, one with a nametagger, is fine. Three or four characters are probably too many. You must keep characters separate and not do any metagaming.
Remember the basics: don't be an ass; no lawyering.
Details
| Role | In Character | Out Of Character |
| Everyone ("Black Gazza Visitor") | People that are known by the prison and are just passing along, visiting someone, or just a friend of the system. | These are people who may want to be with us here but are uncommitted on what side of the system they want to be on. |
| Inmate | Scum. Vile creatures. These are the people that are here for a reason: transgressors of society. They're here to pay a debt. Prisoners are the largest population of Black Gazza players. Black Gazza exists to serve the needs of prisoners, and as the Morale Officer would tell you, your safety and security are our priority. Prisoners may have any of a number of colors of inmate uniforms.
Guards are not the only members permitted to be domineering. In any prison there are those prisoners who dominate others. If you want to be a dominant prisoner, knowing full well that a guard might come along and show you what for, the please feel free—err, uhm. You know what I mean. Make your prisoner interesting:
|
No administrative powers. May safeword any time for any reason or no reason. The Black Gazza safeword is "safeword". |
| Guards in Training | Recruits to eventually become Guards. Assist guards as needed for intake, moving inmates, supervising exercise, and so forth. As a Guard Trainee you are expected to assist with new prisoner intakes as they occur. After a few of these you can take a Guard Practicum Exam. Your roleplaying skills will be judged by a pnel of your peers. If you pass, you become a Guard. |
Guards in Training do not have administrative abilities here (moving things, banning/ejecting). Trainees may apply to become Guards. A committee of Officers will approve or deny the request. |
| Soldiers | The station will reach a level where we got notoriety and we will house soldiers to handle the Storyline of the upcoming war between the CIS and the Heirarchy. They are here to uphold the will and law of the Rshast. | This is a RP title only and has no administrative power. They are above Bounty Hunters but are basically a rank for a storyline coming up in the future. |
| (Greasemonkey) | Prisoners with valued mechanical skills who maintain the station's systems. | As an OOC title, a prisoner in red overalls is carrying on official prison business: building or scripting. Please help out with testing or other duties as requested and able. Your cooperation will help make Black Gazza a better place to play. Some greasemonkey prisoners don't mind being interrupted and dragged off by some bored guard while working; others do. Please ask first ... and no answer means, "No, sorry; I'm too busy. Please grab me later." |
| Bounty Hunters (Tier 1) |
The job of a bounty hunter is to find people who should be incarcerated at Black Gazza, bring them there, and turn them over to guards for intake processing. Bounty Hunters are also authorized, guard permitting, to go in and question inmates about various nefarious operations through out the sector and those that may belong to them. This information can lead to further arrests and more bounty that allows the hunter to earn his salary. These people are associated to Black Gazza and licensed to question inmates or hunt them down if they escape or if they want to bring new members in. They must follow the instructions of the Guards, Officers, and Higher Powers of Black Gazza but can do Guard like duties and be deputized if no guards are present at the prison at any time. | |
| Medical Staff (Tier 2) |
Responsible for the health and safety of prisoners. Equal in rank to Guards. In medical situations and in the medical deck, they have seniority over Guards. As a member of the Medical Staff you are expected to assist with new-prisoner intakes as they occur by helping the Guard do the medical exam. |
While these people have a position of power, they do not have administrative abilities here (moving things, banning/ejecting) and are guards in the Roleplay sense only. To become Medical Staff one must go through a formal interview and vetting process. One must demonstrate good roleplaying skills, situational imagination, adaptability, and compassion for prisoners. A familiarity with BDSM and medicine is highly recommended. |
| Guard (Tier 2) |
These are the enlisted ranks of the staff of Black Gazza and handle the inmates. Guards serve to keep order and discipline in the prison and are responsible for the proper mistreatment of prisoners in Black Gazza. Equal in rank to Medical Staff. In the cellblock and yard, they have seniority over medical staff except in emergency medical situations. As a Guard you are expected to do new-prisoner intakes as they occur. |
While these people have a position of power, they do not have administrative abilities here (moving things, banning/ejecting) and are guards in the Roleplay sense only. To become a guard one must go through a formal interview and vetting process. One must demonstrate good roleplaying skills, situational imagination, adaptability, and IC cruelty and OOC compassion for prisoners. A familiarity with BDSM is highly recommended.
I really would like guards ... at least the ideal guards ... to be ones that can handle people. It's gotten a lot better lately, but, I can't stress how important it is to leverage time for the head raccoon and the Captains. -- Lormyr |
| Officer (Tier 3) |
Responsible for the proper mistreatment of prisoners in Black Gazza.
Supervise all guard trainees, bounty hunters, and guards. Should take direct charge of training of guard trainees. |
Busy.
These are the first rank of administrative leaders of Black Gazza. They are entitled to most powers of banning and ejecting and act as guards in the RP sense. They rank above Guard Trainees, Guards, and Bounty Hunters and can make decisions that override any of the former. They have the power to judge any political situation or rules breakage here. The beginning of the administrative trail. To become an Officer requires something special. It requires seasoning. It involves any of the following ... it involves someone showing extraordinary leadership, someone showing commitment, someone who can build or code something to betters our society here at Black Gazza, someone who can contribute things that will be used ... or it requires someone who is willing to run a plot in the style and flavor of Black Gazza and surrounding universe, someone who understands it, and is willing to carry out a story arc that will better and involve the population at large. Does that help any? Captain levels ... well, you'd better be able to prim golf and code as well as I. -- Lormyr |
| Captain (Tier 4) |
Responsible for the proper mistreatment of prisoners in Black Gazza.
Supervise all guard trainees, bounty hunters, guards, and officers.
|
Very Busy.
Formerly called Greasemonkeys, these are the coders and builders of Black Gazza. They are the people that make things work here and can override any political decisions and are entitled to interpret the rules of Black Gazza and mitigate/judge any situations here. Captains are Second Life residents who use their skills in scripting, building, avatar-making, and so forth to extend the functionality of Black Gazza. If a Greasemonkey or Captain asks for your help with something and you are otherwise free, please comply. Your participation will help make Black Gazza a more enjoyable and secure experience for you and other inmates. |

| Owner / Head Raccoon (Tier 5) |
Very Very Busy.
Please try to engage this level only if tier 3 and tier 4 are not available -- the head raccoon is very very busy and you may get faster results by engaging a lower tier. The Head Raccoon can act in cases where he directly hears or sees a violation or has irrefutable evidence. If something is brought to him, he may at his discretion engage Tier 3 or Tier 4 first to investigate. But when things reach his level, his word is law and final. Appeals from Tier 3 and Tier 4 are handled by him or by a panel of Captains. He makes the final decisions about discipline here, about how the station is built, all coding projects. We Captains LOVE to talk to people, love to answer questions, love to make things work, but .... assigning titles, giving tags, uniforms, etc ... I need other people to do this. I need to find a way to keep traffic [from] coming directly to me so that I can get some focus time. -- Lormyr |
